Health & Safety In The Facilities

Our Policy on Health & Safety

The Club takes every precaution to ensure the Health and Safety of those using the facility. The sport of gymnastics is, however, potentially dangerous due to the nature of the activity.

All of our coaches are appropriately trained and instructed to coach skills in a safe and progressive manner, using the necessary spotting and supporting skills during training.

Accidents are, however, not always preventable. For example if a gymnast loses body tension during a move, does not follow the coaches instruction, or falls when practising a completed move in an unpadded situation. It is important that participants are guided by parents or guardians to maintain concentration, and to listen to and carry out coaches' instructions precisely in order to minimise the risk.

Should an accident occur to any participant involved in a coached session, the coach involved is required to provide first aid as required, and if necessary alert the ambulance service should this be required. In less serious circumstances the coach will decide whether it would be appropriate to allow the gymnast to continue, or call the parent/guardian to take the gymnast home. The coach may also recommend a visit to the Hospital Accident & Emergency unit or a doctor if this is considered necessary. If the coach elects to allow the gymnast to continue, he/she will complete an accident report, and inform the parent/guardian of the incident at the conclusion of the session along with the first aid action taken.

The Club and its coaches are fully insured via British Gymnastics against any liability incurred following accidents in the gymnasium. The Club is required to notify British Gymnastics of any major accidents which may occur in the facility, in case any claim is made against the Club or its officials.
